National standards have made requirements on dimensions of used flatbed trailers mainly from the point of safety. For Instance, the trailer can not be too long, too high, or too wide.If the trailer is too long, it is easy to be overloaded and difficult to turn. If the trailer is too high, bridges and culverts with height restrictions can limit the route of transportation. If the trailer is too wide, since the width of each road is restricted, it is very likely for scratching and rubbing to happen while driving.

If the trailer is too wide, since the width of each road is restricted, it is very likely for scratching and rubbing to happen while driving.
Generally speaking, the length of the trailer is analyzed according to the total mass of the axle and design of the trailer.
Length can not exceed 8.6 meters for 1 axle trailer, 10 meters for 2 axles trailers, and 13 meters for 3 axle trailers with the exception of lowbed semi-trailers, vehicle transporting semi-trailers, and semi-trailers transporting contatiners longer than 12.2 meters or 40 feet.
The 2 axle enclosed van type semi-trailer and container semi-trailer can reach 13 meters, while the 3 axle enclosed van type semi-trailer can reach 14.6 meters.
Commonly, trailers should not exceed 2.5 meters wide. For lowbed trailers and molten iron transport semi-trailer, the width should not 3 meters, and no more than 2.55 meters for van type trailers.
The height of any trailers should be no more than 4 meters.
D-side protection is mainly to protect the vehicle from people or things from entering under the wheel from the side while driving.
For semi trailers, the installation requirements for side guards are:
The distance between the outer edge of the A-side protection and the outer edge of the vehicle body is no more than 120mm, the rear end is at least 250mm, and the position within the outermost side of the rear tire not more than 30mm. We must pay attention to this, especially for van type trailers and cargo fence trailers. Usually, no rope tighteners are required under the side beams of van type trailers so the side guards and toolboxes can be placed outward a little as needed, while car fence trailers and side wall trailers should be installed with rope tighteners in order to keep the side guard and the toolbox on the same surface. The side guard should be facing inward.
The distance from the front of the B side guard to the center line of the landing gear is no more than 250mm, and the distance to the center cross-section when the steering center pin is in the rearmost position cannot exceed 2.7 meters.
The distance between the rear of the C side protection and the edge of the rear wheel is less than or equal to 300
The height of the lower edge of the D side protection from the ground is less than or equal to 550
The height of the upper edge of the E side protection from the ground is greater than 950, and the distance from the vehicle components is no more than 350
F-side protective cross brace spacing should be no more than 300
G-side protective cross-bracing section height should be greater than 100
The rear protection is divided into adjustable type and fixed type. Generally speaking, the fixed rear protection height is no more than 550.
Ground clearance for adjustable type is less than 450. The length of the rear guard is not allowed to exceed the distance from the outermost edge of the wheel. Each end should be no more than 100 from the outer edge of the tire, and the section height should be greater or equal to 100.
The basic structure of trailers mainly consists of two parts: top and bottom.Different models have different top and bottom. For example, side wall trailer has side boards and front board as the top.
For cargo fence trailers, the top is the front compartment, the fence, and the fence structure. When it’s an integral cargo fence, the back door can be a fence and cargo fence. For container trailer, the top is sealed or unsealed contatiner.
The bottom of all types of trailers are roughly the same with frame, traction plate, traction pin, landing gear, side protection, rear protection, axle, electrical control system, etc.
